Frequently Asked Questions

1. Q:  Do we really need a Local High School Bond Measure?

A:  YES.  Antelope Valley high schools are severely overcrowded and physically running out of classroom space.  The District is maximizing it use of portable classroom facilities, but cannot build new campuses or permanent high school classrooms without a local bond measure.

2.  Q:  How much does Measure W cost?

A:  The cost is $30 per $100,000 of assessed property valueless than 25 cents per day.

3.  Q:  Won’t the State of California give the High School District the money it needs to build additional classrooms?

A:  NO.  State matching funds for school construction are ONLY available to high school districts which have passed a local bond measure.  No local bond measure means ZERO state facilities funds.

4. Q:  Can’t developers be forced to pay for new high schools?

A:  NO.  California law limits the amount of fees that schools may collect from developers.  The Antelope Valley High School district already makes full use of its developer fees revenues.
